A Single Moment can make all the difference: a conversation, a gift, an idea – can change the course of a life.
Students in our programs are being given the opportunity to experience their own Single Moment, and make decisions about their futures. They are given the chance to succeed at school; meet people from around the world as expedition volunteers visit their programs; learn, grow and explore their talents in student run interest clubs ; take charge of their lives and direct their own futures.
Meet Henok.
While he was in our program and attending school, Henok had his own Single Moment experience. He met an expedition volunteer who was a competitive gymnast. Fascinated and excited by the skills he saw them perform, Henok became very involved in the gymnastics and acrobatics student club at his Education Support Center.
Henok had natural talent, a drive to be the best he could be, and he applied this to his gymnastics skills.
Today, Henok tours the world with professional circus crews, making a living out of acrobatics and gymnastics.
That Single Moment changed Henok’s life, and brings him both employment and great personal joy and satisfaction.
Meet Eyerusalem.
Eyerusalem was admitted to our Education Support Program when she was a teenager, and she was very excited to attend school. She loved Math, and thought she would like to be an engineer.
She had the opportunity to work closely with visiting nurses and physicians as they came to help her Education Support Program. Her experiences of working closely with medical expedition volunteers helped her decide to attend University to become a Health Officer. She is currently part of a research team trying to improve the lives of those who suffer from Hepatitis.
Through many Single Moments, each building on the other, Eyerusalem took her life in unexpected directions, and loves the career she has chosen. See what education support has meant to her in this short interview video.
Meet Abriham
Abriham is a bright young man who completed our program all the way through Technical College were he obtained a professional drafting certification. With the benefit of having obtained formal education, Abriham also had the opportunity for A Single Moment experience that changed his career course.
An expedition volunteer introduced the students at Abriham’s center to Martial Arts, teaching them a basic skills workshop as part of the expedition. Interested by the discipline, Abriham pursued martial arts classes outside of his schoolwork and was able to gain both martial arts and gymnastics training and certifications for teaching.
Abriham now teaches martial arts and gymnastics full time. With a drive to share the joy he gets from his job, as well as the desire to give back to the program that changed his life, Abriham now teaches student clubs at one of our centers – giving the next generation of students the chance to learn and grow from the disciplines he has pursued.
A Single Moment triggers a ripple effect of change that goes far beyond one student’s life.
